Descriptive elements

The identification is based on:
- the tip of the young shoot with a medium density of prostrate hairs,
- the green young leaves with bronze spots,
- the circular or slightly kidney-shaped adult leaves, entire or with shallow lateral sinuses, with a slightly open or closed U-shaped petiole sinus, small to medium teeth, short except those corresponding to the main veins which are longer, a weak to moderate anthocyanin coloration of veins, a blistered leaf blade, folded at the petiole sinus, and on the lower side of the leaves, a low density of prostrate hairs,
- the ellipsoid berries.

Suitability for cultivation and agronomic production

Verdelho has a moderate to strong vigor and a semi-erect to horizontal bearing. It should be trained and can be pruned short or moderately long.
Susceptibility to diseases and pests

Verdelho is not very sensitive to downy mildew and to grey rot but is quite susceptible to powdery mildew.
Technological potentiality

Verdelho's bunches are small to medium in size and the berries are medium in size. The sugar accumulation potential is moderate to good. This variety produces appreciated, elegant, fragrant dry and sweet wines, with a good acidity, that are suitable for ageing.
Clonal selection in France

The two certified Verdelho clones carry the numbers 6005 and 6006.
