Descriptive elements
The description corresponds to that of Melon, except for the berry skin color which is, in this case, red sometimes turning purple, when ripe.

Bud burst: 9 days after Chasselas.
Grape maturity: early-season, 1 week after Chasselas.
Suitability for cultivation and agronomic production
The aptitudes are close to those of Melon, with an erect bearing and a similar production.
Susceptibility to diseases and pests
As Melon, this variety is sensitive to downy mildew and less to powdery mildew. It is however less susceptible to grey rot than Melon.
Technological potentiality
Melon rouge's bunches and berries are small. As Melon, this variety produces not very colored, light, fresh, pale white wines with floral aromas. It can also be used to make rosé wines and sparkling wines, but does not have enough color to produce red wines.
Clonal selection in France
The only certified Melon rouge clone carries the number 1292.
