This table grape variety was obtained in 1961 at the USDA Station of Fresno in California, by J.H. Weinberger and F.N. Harmon.

Descriptive elements

The identification is based on:
- the tip of the young shoot with a very low density of prostrate hairs,
- the green or bronzed young leaves, with no prostrate hairs,
- the green or red-striped shoots with a ribbed surface,
- the wedge-shaped or circular adult leaves, with five or sometimes seven lobes, deep lateral sinuses with overlapping lobes and sometimes a tooth inside, an open or very open brace- or U-shaped petiole sinus, moderately long teeth compared to their width at the base with convex or straight sides, a strong anthocyanin coloration of veins and petioles, a thin, slightly blistered, twisted leaf blade, and on the lower side of the leaves, no erect and prostrate hairs,
- the round-shaped berries.

Suitability for cultivation and agronomic production

Flame Seedless has a high vigor, long shoots and a horizontal bearing, that recquire a sufficient trellising. This variety is early and is usually pruned long.
Susceptibility to diseases and pests

Flame Seedless is not very sensitive to rot.
Technological potentiality

Flame Seedless’ bunches are medium in size and loose. The red or red-purplish berries are seedless, small to medium, simple-flavored, with a lot of bloom, a rather thin skin and a firm and crunchy pulp. The fruits have a nice gustatory quality.
Clonal selection in France

The only certified Flame seedless clone carries the number 6011.
